The RLS-8500 Series delivers superior performance, value and capacities up to 171 terabytes (native) in just 10U of rack space. Using typical data compression ratios, capacity can exceed 342 terabytes. Up to five LTO 5 SAS or fibre channel tape drives can be installed to deliver aggregate data transfer rates exceeding five terabytes per hour.

Capacity to Grow as Data Explodes
The RLS-8560 model contains 54 data cartridge storage slots and four I/O slots. Installing a second, optional storage matrix into the RLS-8560 adds 60 slots, more than doubling its capacity. The expansion option can be easily installed by users in just a few minutes. The RLS-85120 model houses 114 data slots and one or two 4-slot I/O ports.

Q-Link™ Worldwide Management
Q-Link is the web browser-based remote library manager that allows any RLS Series tape library to be configured, monitored, diagnosed and managed from anywhere in the world. Even firmware updates can be implemented remotely.

Reliable, Intelligent Robotics
The RLS-8500 Series unique robotic mechanisms are Simply Reliable by design. Leadscrew based robotics using brushless DC motors and closed-loop servo control systems provide precise positioning and flawless media handling for years of dependable operation. All FRUs, options and tape drives are auto-discovering, and all electrical and mechanical adjustments have been completely eliminated by sophisticated, adaptive “smart” logic design. Each tape drive is a self-connecting assembly that eliminates handling cables. Simply slide the drives in or out. All service access is through the front or rear of the unit. Once an RLS-8500 library is installed in a rack, there is no need to ever dismount it. N+1 power is an option

Easy Operation
RLS-8500 Series libraries are equipped with hi-resolution, color touch screens for local operation. An intuitive menu-driven control system provides easy-to-use installation, configuration and operation information. Critical operating functions are displayed and an audible alarm signals conditions requiring immediate action. All of the information, functions and controls built into the front panel display are replicated in Q-Link. If allowed by user security policies, Qualstar Technical Support can use Q-Link to monitor library operation to assist with configuration issues and troubleshooting.

Logical Library
Logical Library partitioning is built into RLS-8500 Series libraries. It allows up to five servers to share a single library, even if each server is running a separate application. Systems that weren’t economical to upgrade can now be protected, automatically.
